Oncology

Veterinary Oncology is the branch of veterinary medicine that addresses tumors, including the origin, development, diagnosis and treatment of malignant cancers.

If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, the Internal Medicine specialist will meet with you to discuss the chemotherapy options available through our hospital, and will carefully review of the goals of chemotherapy, the risks, potential side effects. Weekly appointments will be arranged to allow the doctor to review your pet’s progress. Diagnostics, including radiology, ultrasonography, cytology and bloodwork may be performed to aid in appropriate treatment. We work closely with your primary care veterinarian to pursue the best care for your pet.

If emergency difficulties arise, our 24-hour Emergency Veterinary team is available. They have access to your pet’s medical record and can contact the Internal Medicine specialist as necessary. Chemotherapeutic treatment for diseases such as lymphoma, transitional cell carcinoma, mast cell disease, histiocytic disease, hemangiosarcoma and osteosarcoma are a part of our routine oncologic caseload. Our oncology team works closely with our surgeons, criticalist and Emergency team to provide the best 24-hour care for your pet.
